James, I responded to your post earlier today but it didn't show-up so here's another try. I've been making Z-scale models under a microscope for years so Lego scale is a cakewalk in comparison. Has anyone looked into the feasibility of building a switcher with an electromagnet? It seems to me it would be simple, excluding the switch for the circuit. The switch would need to be remote to allow freedom of movement to the engine. The (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

For a right angle element, just use the 1x1 technic beam with a 1.2l technic pin with stud end. That one works fine and there are no mismatched lengths to worry about and no weird shapes on the back of it to worry about either. 1x1 brick with side (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Frank, Kathryn is powered by an old 12v motor pulling power from a dummy 9v mechanism in the tender. The old 12v motors generally run quieter, smoother, slower, and just look better for steam loks than the 9v ones. The new 9v motors, however, are (...) (...) That seems hard to believe! Are you, for instance, putting stickers on all sides and faces of those 1x1 with side studs? That is a lot of VERY fine sticker work. Brain, Wow, those are some very impressive examples of your work. I'd love to see in some more detail on how you create the stickers. It's hard to believe that the three green bricks on the front of your "Kathryn" are not painted and only covered (...) All, Larry mentioned a train in the GMLTC pictures that is not a standard Lego color. It is my beloved locomotive "Kathryn" which pulls the royal train on my layout. Not really new ideas at all. All copied from other work. Especially the turning of the thinwall windows by 90 degrees! I just got an idea to remove any spacing gaps in at the right angle endpoint connections. Maybe this is old news? I used the 1x3x2 (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)
