Re: End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

(...) Does the fixed two-axle type freight car offer more resistance around curves compared to modern swiveling trucks like I imagine it would? Or would it depend on the length of the car itself compared to the curve radius? (URL) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  programmed switching systems

Hello everyone, In several places on my 9V Lego train layout, I have sidings which provide the opportunity for a train to overtake another train which is travelling on the same track in the same direction. I would like to automate this process and I (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

Re: End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

(...) In May, I made a test (based on your information): (URL) loco (built after set 112-2) pulled 20 two-axle "oldschool" cars. 11 of them had the old wheels with traction teeth, 6 had various spoked wheels (years 1969-1990) and 3 had the (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

Re: End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

(...) Holy schamollies! That is indeed some very impressive pulling power by the 9V motors! I guess I was only making an assumption based on mis-perceptions fueled by not enough data and an unscientific guess. Boy, that's a horrible combination. (...)   Re: End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

(...) Hi Bob, that assumption is not perfectly correct. In October 2006 a single 12V engine (powered by 2 motors) has pulled this 100 waggons train. (URL) A few months earlier we have made this attempt with a 9V engine pulling 61 cars. But we had (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

(...) Actually, the magnetic couplers would be the limiting factor before the strength of the person pulling the train became an issue. I'm sure someone here knows what the critical number of cars is before the lead coupler can no longer bear the (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

End of 9V Trains protest layout idea

Here's a crazy idea... How about one or more of the larger Lego train clubs that attend shows set up the following layout: a 30 x 50 foot layout (or some such large size) with no power provided at all. No batteries. No electricity. Not even solar (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX) !

Re: The demise of the urban landscape

(...) I love it! Looks like the new layout will need stickers too! Jonathan (17 years ago, 22-Oct-07, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains, lugnet.general, FTX)

(...) Shoot! And I had already found the perfect moving company in the yellow pages: (URL) At least, I think it was a moving company....;-) I can't wait to hear more details, Jonathan! JOHN (17 years ago, 22-Oct-07, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains, lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: The demise of the urban landscape

(...) Thanks, All. Much appreciated. I have already sold a number of buildings but I am still looking into artist space options locally. There are lots of converted factories and warehouses nearby. We checked some out yesterday - though, nothing is (...) (17 years ago, 22-Oct-07, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains, lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: The demise of the urban landscape

(...) Okay, Jonathan: I fly out to NYC; we rent a truck, take apart the layout, pack it up, drive to Dan's. Next day, we set it up, and then drive back. Long weekend; done. Might be fun, bro! :-) JOHN (17 years ago, 21-Oct-07, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains, lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: The Future of Trains

(...) Wow, great list, Remko. I would like to second all of these suggestions. Together they are relatively simple and easy to impliment, and they will work well for kids and adults. I really like the "assemble it yourself" metal track idea - great, (...) (17 years ago, 17-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: The Future of Trains

(...) ... (...) Remko had a great idea about off-loading the "attaching metal strips to the rail" to the user. Too bad that ship has likely sailed. First, in defense of battery power, while a few folks have pointed to the powered rails and said, (...) (17 years ago, 18-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: A power rail idea

(...) Actually, you'll see I more-or-less suggested that as a method for prototyping the functionality. Or as a last resort if we get desperate in the future. But you can get "polarity immunity" by offsetting the N (or H0, or whatever size works) (...) (17 years ago, 18-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)
