  New guy in town!

Hi All, With James' permission (he's away form a PC for the next few days)... James and Amy Mathis is pround to announce the healthy birth of their son Liam James Mathis! He was born yesterday (Thrusday April 7th), 5lbs-13oz (~2.6kg), 19.25" (~49cm) (...) (20 years ago, 8-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.announce)

MichLTC to display at Chicago House of Bricks

MichLTC is going to setup a 15'x15' train/town display at the Chicago House of Bricks. Expect to see Larry P's (URL) Super Chief Project>, Jason Spears' (URL) Hotel>, Chris Leach's (URL) red factory> and much more. Hope to see many of you there! (...)   Re: Indy 500 Speedway

  Re: Design Update (was Re: Preview ALCO RS-1 A. T. & S. F.)

(...) It's funny that you posted this. I'm working on my own version of an RS-1, and I ended up using the same piece for the roof, though my roof looks to be a couple of studs wider. At the moment, Bricklink has *none* of these in Black, so I had to (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Indy 500 Speedway

Not bad :) Now if only someone would build a lego model of Mount Panorama @ Bathurst :) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town)

  Design Update (was Re: Preview ALCO RS-1 A. T. & S. F.)

(...) The design of this illustrated step book is complete. (...) Looks like the (URL) new slope brick curved top 1x3x1 piece> is available in black. The new for 2005 set 8648 Buzz Saw racer, US$10, has two of them. Ouch! This RS-1 locomotive uses (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Indy 500 Speedway

I'm getting close to completing this lil' project and I thought I would submit it to the discussion on compressionism. :-) Since the real track is 2.5 miles in length and sets on a 320 acre tract of land it was necessary to scale a few things down. (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town)

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Sorry, that's what I meant, apologies if that wasn't clear. Steve's right though, you need to stop hassling people about their desires (and they need to stop hassling you about yours)... (20 years ago, 6-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Better that way than having several clubmembers coming to you asking what that stupid big engine did to their trackside structures. (I was the only 8-wide builder at the time and built my engines big, heavy and as overpowered as possible :D ) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: London Underground Train

(...) Yes..you do have a proportionally large gap to mind with lego trains! The extra plate would certainly reduce the inset at the sloped part of the door but it was not possible with this version because the tile on top of the door is required to (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: London Underground Train

Hi Jon, "Mind the Gap" ;) I was just in London for a week in the fall and rode this very train from Heathrow to Earl's Court station. And other tube trains all around London, including the EuroStar from Waterloo station to Paris! (Steve's excited). (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Compressionism

A very close friend has been recently teaching me a lot about not trying to change others. It's hard for me and as I try grow in this particular direction I have become more sensitive to it and I see it in most everyone. :) I think that we should (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Compressionism (D&RGW coach set)

(...) Ugh, I can't stand it. We just had a layout that used c-s-c-s-c-s-c to avoid a track overlap, and I felt like puking as the trains went bobbing through it. I can only imagine how those poor minifigs felt. As for the 8-wide debate, we all know (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) No, but I hadn't seen that before, so I'l glad you pointed it out. thanks tim (20 years ago, 4-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) I felt uncomfortable with compressionism (for my own MOCs) and I prefered not compress, choosing between staying stuck in 6-wide or not running my trains on difficult layout (uneven, curved,...). This thread (and Steve's beautiful colored (...) (20 years ago, 4-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) I'm glad you're still around, I thought I hadn't seen anything from you in a while. That folder must have been in my bookmarks for ages but I thought of it straight away(1) when thinking of urban scens with raised tracks! I look foward to your (...)   Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) This was my set up in, I think, 1997 or 1998. Based on one of the elevated lines of the NYC subway system in the Bronx. I am not aware of any occupied arches with the NYC subway system, though I am not familiar with all the elevated portions. (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) Indeed it does. And to EL track as well, which MichLTC has been experimenting with a lot lately. See also Brian's work with NILTC. (...) Yes, yes, yes it is... Good eye! It gets around but I'd never seen it on a High Line before... (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) There's (URL) this one>. Its not occupied arches and the syle of elevated railway means thats its definatly American (or Parisian) but still good. Mind you, I think your (URL) 'Seedy end of town'> combined with (URL) Tony's viaduct> and the (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) Nice find! The buildings built into the viaduct remind me of the S Bahn in Berlin for some reason. But I agree it has an overall Japanese feel, at least a bit anyway. (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: London Underground Train

(...) Added a couple of pics of this: (URL) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Cool new scene spotted on BS

(...) Very inspiring, Tim. I'd hope it would form part of a larger layout but the narrow track centres suggest it's a diorama. I'd like to see more urban scenes with railway running over occupied arches. Lego lends itself best to this kind of (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

Cool new scene spotted on BS

(URL) think its got a really nice feel to it I'm a bit confused by the title tho', the username sounds Japanese, the locos look Japanese and cars are driving on the left but the folder name is definatly German (Greifbare Eisenbahn). Anyway, its (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC - Class 08 Shunter with on-board uncoupling device

(...) <snipped loads of cool stuff> Jonathan, Holy smokes, this is cool! The application, execution, function, and form...all meld together in a beautiful working package. I am literally sitting here shaking my head in awe and wonder. Most (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC - Class 08 Shunter with on-board uncoupling device

(...) Oh yeah! Nicely disguised 9v technic motor in a 6w package. This is a great all-LEGO solution, Jon. Of course, DCC aux output would eliminate the trackside ramp and allow uncoupling anywhere, but this is an everyman solution for sure. I _have_ (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC - Class 08 Shunter with on-board uncoupling device

I've been waiting for Jon to post this here since he posted it on the Brickish site this morning. I'm not going to say much as I've said it already, beyond the fact that I think that not only is is a great feat of engineering, its also a nice model (...)   New MOC - Class 08 Shunter with on-board uncoupling device

Here is my latest MOC, a class BR class 08 shunter (nickname = 'Gronk') in BR grey livery based on prototype 08 460. (URL) course shunting is useless without being able to uncouple and couple at will. The model therefore includes an in-built (...)   Re: Compressionism

(...) At least you've tried it Jason. A lot of the critics of wider trains haven't had a decent go at it. It takes tenacity to make it work. I've been at it for 9 years now! If Lar is waiting for wider radius curves before trying it, let's see his (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) Sadly, not possible. I'd be willing to bet he talks in his sleep. We still wonder where Ross got his building abilities. Maybe his mother? (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Less than 1/2-stud door inset

(...) Yeah, to use the backside of two 1x1 headlight bricks instead of the Technic brick 1x2 with two side holes might offer a better stiction connection to the "L" brack with 1/2-plate thickness. Thanks. later, James Mathis (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Less than 1/2-stud door inset

(...) Not seen that method before. Looks like it should be inset by 3/4 plate thickness. There are 1/2 plate inset mehods around (URL) or even less, but that one looks fairly rigid and doesn't clog up the interior. Jason Railton (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Less than 1/2-stud door inset

(...) I used a similar thing for the first version of my WAP-5's grille once: (2 URLs) But I hadn't really delved into using it for a different door offset, obvious though it may be. However, I had been toying with the idea of using headlight bricks (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Less than 1/2-stud door inset

Here's an idea for a (URL) door "look" that is inset by less than 1/2-stud>. Sorry if this has been shown before, and I haven't noticed to credit the designer. later, James Mathis (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) Hey, why don't you shut your piehole? A simple question was asked by Didier to the community asking what people thought of compressionism, and I responded. If you don't like my response, then keep it to yourself. (...) Ahem. "Family forum", (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) You send the rope, duct tape, and concrete and we'll find someone large named Chuck, Giudo, or Chuckles. (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) You're right. No fun, but right. So get J2 to shut up, he's the main instigator of the "bigger is better" thing... you'd think he's compensating for something. (although Spencer and his 7 wide automobiles certainly don't help matters) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Compressionism

(...) I beg to differ. My minifigs recently came out in protest against the increased noise levels and pollution of trialling a proposed 8-wide design. I didn't have enough green 1x2 tiles with '100' print to contest the issue so will be sticking to (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: D&RGW coach set

(...) Me too. (...) I have the same issue there... How do you apply them? I have found a technique that helps, somewhat... (maybe you use it already, I dunno). Take your clean and oil free Xacto brand model knife and put the corner of the sticker on (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains)
