Mathis to Matthes: OK in Desert; Thanks for the Wheel Flange Rims

HoMa, Life is hot here in Central New Mexico! A late reply for the favour of sending me the sets of aluminum(?) adaptor wheel flange rims for the large red spoked wheels. These wheels have been incorporated into my Palatine locomotve. As a (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

Hi James, thanks for transmitting this message! But I can't find the section on LEGO.com ;-(( Is it (URL) ??? But the idea of bigger wheels and shorter tracks (maybe wider curves??) sounds good. BTW: Everything ok in your desert James? Kind regards, (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Size matters

(...) Thanks for asking this Jeroen, I have found that six-axle bogies do work on LEGO® trains, and corner quite decently. Also about the wheel spacing on two-axle waggons? A maximum of eight studs can be used between the two wheels without the (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Size matters

(...) Yes, provided all wheels are touching (just!). 6 wheel bogies work better with the 4.5V wheelsets. (...) 14 studs long between ends of wheels is better, 16 is the practical maximum (...) 30-34 studs long, IMO. A "standard" US 40 ft long boxcar (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: LEGO® Train Philosophy

(...) That's an excellent model of a GP38-2. Looks good with OR without the decals to me. I personally use only official LEGO® stickers on my stuff, but to each his own.-Harvey (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Size matters

No this is not about 6 or 8 wides but I need some expert-advice here: 6 wheel bogies; does that work on 9V tracks? what is the maximum length of a 4 wheel car? Most LEGO 4 wheelers are 16 studs long, is that the max? What is the (realistic) maximum (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: LEGO® Train Philosophy

(...) I tend to be like you. I just approximate and include the details I can/want to include. That doesn't mean I havn't fallen into the trap of trying to be to precise.   LEGO® Train Philosophy

During my first year of being a LUGNET member, I have noticed that people usually take one of two approaches when building their train MOC's. Either they are as realistic as possible, or they are representational. Realising that you can only include (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Train compatibility?

(...) There is a very slight difference in the overall diameter of the 4.5V wheels versus the 9V wheels.-Harvey (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Train compatibility?

(...) LEGO trains have a high degree of compatibility. The only real source of incompatibility is the electrical items. This means for example that 9V and 12V track and motors are incompatible, and neither will run on 4.5V track (though 4.5V and (...) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Train compatibility?

Dave & All, (...) I don't see it as being different at all, it is still 9V track, and all those new cars are 9V compatible too. The Metroliner started the 9V! : ) Scott S. -- (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Train compatibility?

I have a question for all you train folks: Will the metroliner tracks be compatible with trains in the catalogs now? Are the the same voltage? I want to get the metroliner, but it might be a pain to have two different kinds of track. -Dave (URL) (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: APT tilts thru curves in Real-Build ABS form
