HoMa,

Life is hot here in Central New Mexico!

A late reply for the favour of sending me the sets of aluminum(?) adaptor
wheel flange rims for the large red spoked wheels.  These wheels have been
incorporated into my Palatine locomotve.  As a consequence of the increase
in wheel diameter due to the adaptor flanged rims, I have lengthened the
Palantine by 2 studs.  It looks a good bit more proportional to the real
engine.  :-)

I did have some frustration with height alignment between the altered
ride-height on the aluminum-flanged large red spoked wheels and the 4.5v/12v
style small red train wheels.  I have ended up "floating" the
aluminum-flanged large red spoked wheels much like the town truck trailer
wheels "float" for simulated suspension in set 4549 (or other truck trailers
of this era).
This seems to allow all the wheels to handle incline changes and keeps
undercarriage pivoting parts flush against their respective bodywork
interfaces.  It isn't perfect.  I do get some derailings.  :-(  I'm not used
to non-LEGO constructs ;-)  I hope to take the Palatine set to the PNLTC
event at Legoland California.

Thanks for the rims!  :-)  Now, I need more large red spoked wheels.

later,
James Mathis

Hi James, (...) Yes aluminium. I had the same size-problem while I build the second BR 10 engine in black. The version A in white was also 2 studs shorter ;-) But it was worse it ... (...) Did I get this? My alu-flanges won't roll all at the same (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)

(...) <snip> HoMa, did you sell a set of these to Thomas Main? I got a chance to see them at Brickfest, if so, and they look really nifty. Very nice work. I liked how you got them to "snap" on so only friction held them on but they came off easily. (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)
