6 wheel bogies; does that work on 9V tracks?

Yes, provided all wheels are touching (just!).  6 wheel bogies work better with
the 4.5V wheelsets.

what is the maximum length of a 4 wheel car? Most LEGO 4 wheelers are 16
studs long, is that the max?

14 studs long between ends of wheels is better, 16 is the practical maximum

What is the (realistic) maximum length of a car with bogies?

30-34 studs long, IMO.  A "standard" US 40 ft long boxcar would go around 60'
curves...but, not very fast eh :)
