The set you are refering to is 6375 GAS STATION (Exxon):

The pump hoses were little bits of waxed string that fit the diameter of the
headlight/gas cap hole on the sides of LEGOLAND cars.
Back when I was a wee Maniac I received this and Main Street which I still
have (the original rocked!) but the stickers are somewhat worse for wear.
Man, I do hate stickers!
