I have seen one which had
very large and bold arrows indicating which direction was forward, a matter
of some importance I imagine :-)
When you have the turet turned 180 degrees and you need to move the machine
the arrows help because the controlls in the basket for foward and reverse will
work oppositly from the operator's perpesctive.

I assume that those machines are designed to stay balanced in the event of a
tyre puncture, but I always wondered about driving over a pothole or
something similar; presumably there is a large degree of balance designed in
to prevent the machine toppling in such an event. Presumably they look more
precarious than they are!
No suspesnion.  Very bumpy going over rail road tracks!!!!  The base is heavy
with weight of (in my case batteries etc.) and ballast.  If there is a tip over
danger an alarm (beep!) will sound.  Stopping and starting can be enough to
sound it.

To clarify the notion of simultaneous movement I mentioned, I saw an example
this morning where the two boom sections similar to that designed by Pixel
was driven by a single hydraulic cylinder, and linkages kept the two parts
at equal angles to the horizontal. The two independent movements is probably
smarter looking though. • It is good when they keep you on the level.  :-)

This is to fix up the end of my previous message. It was to say at the bottom "It is good when they keep you on the level". But it appears I put it in with Jennifer's writing. Sorry. To add to this the sections of the boom give you not only vertical (...) (22 years ago, 5-Mar-03, to lugnet.technic)
