    Droids (8000, 8001, 8002) —Grant Elliott
I just got the three droids in the mail on Thursday (Let's hear it for Shop at Home!) and all I can say is, "Wow!" Lego did a spectacular job on these three sets. The Pit Droid, though simple, is just neat. The Battle Droid can best be described as (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) 8448 is loaded with beams, albeit ones with holes along its sides. I would say almost half the whole model is beams. I just took mine apart yesterday to make room for my 3 droids. Trust me, lots and lots of beams. Jason F. (25 years ago, 17-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Yes, but 8448 is a 99 set. For 2000 there are now five holed and a fifteen holed beams with no studs (and rounded ends), which appear to be a replacements for the 5 and 15 holed studded technic beams. I'll bet that in the next couple years we'll see (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Agreed (I just finished my Battle Droid a few minutes ago). One thing, though. Either Lucas' people aren't checking for "correctness" as thoroughly as people think they are, or Robert Brown's research is incorrect ((URL) The box shows the (...)      Look at the new 2000 F1-car! I think it's impossible to build a car-chassis without studded beams. It has to be strong enough so it will not bend. (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

         Re: Droids (8000, 8001, 8002) —Mark Koesel
I've built an entire car chassis out of cross axles and connectors, so I'm absolutely certain that I can build one out of non-studded beams. Many of the chassis' used in traditional Technic sets get their strength through connecting beams together (...) (25 years ago, 18-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Seems like most traditional Technic constructions get rigidity by the combination of friction pegs and stud-and-tube layers. Steve (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

        Re: Droids (8000, 8001, 8002) —Steve Bliss
(...) I think these two statements are contradictory. Seems like the construction material and techniques used to make "one of the best purely mechanical sets" would be more than a mere novelty. The new beams work *very* well in the look-and-feel of (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)
