`Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' —Johannes Keukelaar
Hi all, This is sure to cause some controversy and stir up some discussion on this forum: (URL) discussion of this over on /.: (URL) I'll just sit back and watch the sparks fly, I think.         Re: `Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' —Steve Lane
What we could do with is a short web page 'A quick guide to the basics of Lego' This would be invaluable for people who wish to comment on Lego but do not have the experience we enthusiast's have. It should also address the element of Meccano fans (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.general)

(...) Alright, alright, i'll do it! ;-) Once we've got the UKLUG page sorted I'll have a go. I've just replied to the message on /. that namechecked me (this fame will quickly go to my head!) so I'll keep an eye on that to assist with targeting it. (...)          Re: `Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' and longest instructions. —Steve Lane
(...) Brilliant!! I was actually expecting a bit more debate, but you've rounded off this part of the thread very neatly. (...) I'd be more interested to know if it can crack a hundred MPH!!! (scale of course) :-) Steve (who would love a set of (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.uk)

(...) I agree with what John's written although just because we're right doesn't mean we can't tell them we're right :-). We only need to justify ourselve's as much as you'd justify yourself supporting any position. Just enough justification to (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: `Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' —Allan Bedford
(...) Probably over 50... but this is simply speculation. (...) In Meccano's Golden Age, LEGO did not exist. (...) If you compare the top-of-the-line LEGO Technic pieces and building techniques, you won't quite measure up to some of the things that (...) (23 years ago, 22-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: `Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' —Steve Bliss
(...) I think Sir Harry hasn't checked out the crap Meccano is offering these days. "Erector, Jr." anyone? Steve Christopher! have you backed up your data? (23 years ago, 9-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: `Why Britain needs more Meccano and less Lego' —Allan Bedford
(...) I can only speculate that Sir Harry is referring to Meccano's Golden Age, which was anytime prior to the late 1960's. Meccano, in it's day, offered sets which allowed for an amazing range of building possibilities. They offered an astounding (...)
