Boy are those little notches handy, too! I remember noticing the notches
very soon after I left my dark ages. Most of my 2 long axles from before my
dark ages have tooth marks from being removed from some other Technic piece.
And I REALLY dislike making those kind of scratches/marks on my Lego too.
But there were no other options available to me at the time... :-)
