Any Ideas= 8448 and 4 wheel steering? —Gary E. Blessing
Hi, I've been thinking about this for about a week and can't come up with anything. I even looked at the 8880 instructions but I couldn't figure out how to make the conversion. Does anyone have any ideas? Any Help Apreciated! Thanks! Gary (23 years ago, 10-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

If you still want the rear wheel drive and suspension, you are going to have a tough time implementing rear wheel steering! The 8880 implements rear wheel steering and drive by some specialized parts. Without them it is somewhat tricky to build (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Hmm. I'm not a Technic-head, and I haven't actually sat down and played with the ABS to know how well this would work, but here goes an idea... In order to look right (and work well, I think), the pivot for the rear wheels need to be as close (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) The problem with using u-joints is that as the angle increases, the output becomes more "jumpy" relative to the input. This is why real cars (and the 8880) use CV joints. With suspension, it's OK, because you can use two u-joints to cancel (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Similar to what I'm building now I think. I'm using 2 u-joints with 'parallelogram' suspension, and it works ok as long as you make sure that the pivot points for the hub and suspension are vertically aligned witht he u-joint pivot points. That way, (...) (23 years ago, 18-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) dmensions. You also have to make sure the two u-joints are connected with the "slits" matching, not 90 degrees apart, or you'll get the sinusoidal variation Jason mentions here: (URL) you don't understand my description (you wouldn't be the (...)      (...) Well, I did it for good looks, but now I'm glad i did! Whew. Not sure how long that wouldv'e taken me to figure out. I finally mounted my t-block engine and the two-speed auto tranny to the rear assembly. And darned if it dont all work! (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

I figured out 4WD/4WS two years ago :+) It also has a working differential so that when one wheel gets off the ground, the other will still get traction. Check it out: (URL) this model does not do, but could easily have, is a differential between (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Mine has a transverse mounted 12 cyl engine, and a two speed worm gear tranny. The rear axle has a differential, but I have one problem. Using a worm gear in hte tranny means that the engine can drive the wheel, but during gear changes, the axle (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)
