Medium gears.... New ones are different! —Rose Regner
Sorry if this is not new news, but.... (URL) out the changes. The new gear is on top. I just noticed this when trying to build a large crankshaft, and found you can no longer attach axles on the off-center cross position. When did this happen? Eric (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

Man, I'll have to go back through my Mindstorms and see if that's so (only recent Technic-like addition) I don't remember it being that. Of-axis gearing is a mainstay!      (...) My 1.0 RIS has gears of the new type, as were the gears that came with my Extreme Creatures (it was on sale!) expansion pack. \ This is not a cool thing at all. -Cheese (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) 1998? Or even earlier? The new one was probably introduced because it is somewhat more solid. I remember breaking a few of the old ones when I was a child. Fredrik (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

I noticed that the logo was part of a 24T gear, and if you take a pie section at the right spot it looks like two kids holding hands. OK, maybe they can be adults too. (...)       The off-center gears frequently are warped. They do not run true. -- Bob Fay rfay@we.mediaone.net The Shop (URL) Koesel" <koesel@umich.edu> wrote in message news:FMFHpn.BA7@lugnet.com... (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

(...) FYI: After going through some of my sets, the Barcode truck has all the new type, but the 8286 3-in-1 car has one of the old type. The 8286 and the 8480 are copyrighted 1996. The barcode truck is 1997. I think Fredrik nailed this one.... 1997 (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Medium gears.... New ones are different! —Gregor Benedikt Rochow
(...) I first noticed the new type in a parts pack bought from S@H in November 98. Not nice at all, e.g. old square piston engines as done in official models won't be possible with these. - Though personally, I had those engine parts for years w/o (...)
