Hmmmmmm, very interesting point Jonathan. Although I would say it is a lot
closer than the Designer sets, I am still not sure it is there yet. If a
bit more effort had been put into the windows, engines, and wings of it then
it would certainly qualify in my book.
I do own the 8466, actually have four of them (man, 50% off was a steal on
that set!). I would completely agree with you that it has much better parts
than the 8448. I think the 8466 is a great example of what can be done with
a combination of studded and studdless parts! The only real problem with
the 8466 was the dumb metallic green panels. I built one that used the blue
and white panels from the 8461 and it looked awesome! I always wanted to do
it in red. Now that the 8454 Fire Truck sets have gone on clearnace that
might be something to do.
All in all, I just would like it a lot more if the studded parts were not
being phased out of Technic completely. Funny thing is that they are
popping up in larger and larger quantities in other system sets. Go
figure!?
