Sounds like what happend was:
1.8431 came out
2.lego only did smallish production run of it
3.it sold far more than expected
4.a decision to do more was made
and 5.because of how lego works and how long it has been since this first
hit, a new number is needed.
Whats interesting is that several shops here in australia still have copies
of the 8431 in stock.

| I just saw this at Brickset: (URL) Seems familiar? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's 8460 Pneumatic Crane Truck! A SECOND REISSUE!!! This is unbelievable!
