The 8480 Space Shuttle comes to my mind. But you'll probably find that most pre 1998 Technic sets included instructions for motorization with the old style motor. Go to Brickshelf to see for yourself. Fredrik (24 years ago, 10-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Yeah, this motor usually needs to be geared down two or three times to get a sufficient amount of torque. Most of the official sets seem to use pulleys and rubber belts rather than gears (probably because these are much quieter than gears) but (...) Hi everyone; I had a question on the 8857 Street Chopper model from 1993. I was looking at the instructions for this on Brickshelf and am wondering if the chain in the rear has any purpose other than decoration. The 8-tooth gear which is connected (...) (24 years ago, 10-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)

I just picked up one of the old style 9v technic motors and I am having a problem. (URL) works just fine when I just run it so the motor is ok.
