The slowest thread ever!  I know this is a month (and then a year more)
old, but I am catching up, too, and there's a lot to catch up on!
Archival quality sheet protectors are very useful and almost a necessity
for photographs, but I think (the ones I use) Avery sheet protectors are
sufficient for Lego catalogs and/or instructions.  Since I began using
these, about 7 years ago, I can see no discoloration, in the plastic or the
paper.  Thats not bad for as cheap as they are.  I figured I will be using
these forever, so I got a box of 1,000 at Costco for less than ten dollars.

Make sure you use the "archival quality" sheet protectors.  The
other kind can mess up your stuff.

What makes the "archival quality" sheet protectors so special and
why do the other kind mess up the catalogues?  How would I recognize
an archival quality sheet protector, anyway?

(Yes, the original message was from over a year ago.  So I'm just
catching up, give me a break!)

Archival quality sheet protectors won't stick to or discolor your
sheets over time.  I have some photos that were put into what were
obviously not archival quality sheet protectors.  After only about 3
years, the photo image has turned orange and imprinted itself in
reverse on the protector.

I generally get my sheet protectors at Office Depot, but I have also
gotten them via mail order from 20th Century Plastics, which has a
wider selection: <http://www.20thcenturyplastics.com/>
