Hi all!

Have you ever thought abou the maximum washing temperature for dirty Lego®
bricks?
At what temperature will Lego® bricks get damaged - for e.g. in summer in your
car or in your house's Lego® room under the roof?

I did the ultimate test today. See the (partly surprising) results here in
this gallery (use the >> buttons to navigate from picture to picture).

So far the text is only added in German, but I think it is primitive enough to
be automatically translated via altavisa or something like that. Most picture
will speak for themselves anyway.

Kind Regards,

Ben

P.s.: Don't call me cruel, because a Minifig had to die: I hope thousands of
them will take profit in future. Results in 3 sentences: 40°C are absolutely
ok for a minifig. 60°C are still ok (at least for a while?) Even 75°C are no
big deal. But be careful: 80°C will destroy most of your elements for sure!

(Lego material ABS at 75°C smells like the inside of a new box. ABS at more
than 110°C stinks! ABS at 150 °C begins to smoke.....

(...) Can you comment on the shine of the elements? I have observed some discoloration (whitening or fading) when elements are overheated when in too hot water. Did you see any of that? The very melted elements seem quite shiny. Thanks for doing (...) (22 years ago, 23-Jul-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Thanks for doing the test. Inquiring minds want to know this kind of stuff! (...) I can confirm that my minifigs have survived every summer at this temperatures. They didn't even break into a sweat. Kerry (22 years ago, 23-Jul-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Well...A certain Victorian LEGO collector tried something similar recently with a construction and a heater...maybe he can tell you how hot they got there :) (22 years ago, 24-Jul-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.au)

(...) Well, as far as I know, Obi-Wan (if you watched Star Wars, you will know the reference), a few years ago, LEGO suggested in its catalogs that if you plan on washing your elements to never go above 104 degrees Farenheit (or however you spell (...) (22 years ago, 24-Jul-02, to lugnet.general)

(URL) guess I can thank you for doing all the work for me. I envisioned an arrangement using similar melted bricks as the logo for what may one day be the Arizona LUG. This is because I have often refered my home state as the land where the bricks (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jul-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.az)

(...) I like the last picture of a "flat" minifig :-) Now a question: You did your tests in hot air, will the results been the same if it has been in water ? I don't ask you to try again ;-) Thanks for showing us your experiment. Gael (22 years ago, 22-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)
