I lived in Japan for a year, full emersion, and am conversationally capable
(not quite fluent) in the language, and I've been complemented often on my
Japanese accent and a couple of times mistaken for a native speaker on the
phone by native Japanese speakers.

My first impression of the Nemoidians was that they sounded like a deliberate
American charicature of a Japanese accent.  I was more than a little miffed.

Aside from Jar Jar, Midichlorians, and the Imaculate Conception, losing the
subtitles was the worst thing Lucas did in TPM, IMHO.

(...) But in the story as it stands, there aren't many places for subtitles. Boss Nass could be a possibility, but I don't think the plot would have been better served by having JarJar speak in full Gungan with subtitling. Any inclusion of JarJar at (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.starwars)
