When I first saw the on-line pictures of the 2 UCS ships, my first impression
was that the X-Wing would be the better of the two because it just seemed to be
richer in details. Weekend before last I had a small Lego-fest with an out-of-
town friend; I brought the X-Wing, and he brought the Tie. My first impression
of the Tie was "Wow! This is better than the X-Wing!" After further
reflection, I still think that the Tie may indeed be the better of the two in
terms of overall sturdiness of design. Perhaps this is because there are really
no obvious flaws to the Tie; the X-Wing is greatness (any set with that many
tiles and white slopes and neat misc. bits and pieces is bound to be), although
we'd all agree that the foil system is a little bit too clever for its own good,
and the ship does indeed look naked without printing. Anyway, I'm definitely
sold on the Tie, but I think that a more reasonable price-point would be nearer
to $70 than to $100.
