Total snippage of original post...

While I love the photos of the UCS X-wing that have been posted on-line, and
in the catalog, I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the
box at TRU in Dallas.  The larger photo shows more detail, and it appears
somehow "cheesy" to me.  In the online photos, it looks very good, the lines
and proportions look right, etc.  But the larger photo looks much more
"toyish." Hard to define it, but "I've got a bad feeling" about this model.
Of course, it could be sour grapes, given that I won't have $160 to spend
(all at once) on Lego for quite some time.  I'd like a better look at that
canopy, though.  Any other unique parts in it?

James Wilson

There were a bunch of parts that I loved... (unique? I don't know, perhaps,
but more likely just odd pieces I'd never seen before or colors I hadn't seen
before)... The dk. grey engine pieces (at the end) were completely new to me,
as was the cockpit (no suprise there), and the large gearbox for the worm
gear...

There were also:
-minifig barrels in light grey
-tractor tread wheels in light grey and tan
-space-style canopy in solid light grey
-technic AXLES in light grey
-grey axle 'covers' (double ended peg holes w/ smooth exterior)
-R2D2 bodies in solid light grey
-R2D2 dome-heads in solid light grey
-more stuff I'm forgetting offhand probly

One of the best things, though, was that almost EVERYTHING was stickers, not
preprinted (including the canopy!)

My main beefs with the model itself are:
-no landing gear! Dunno how exactly to do it on the nose, but I'm sure they
could've worked something out...
-The wing-opening mechanism probably could have been better designed. I would
have probably tried axles connecting opposing wings so that the weight would
be better distributed. Maybe there's some reason they didn't do it, but
offhand, that's how I'd handle it...
-The colors are kinda dumb. The mix of tan and grey on the wing lasers was a
bit odd. The splashes of red just don't seem accurate. They seem more random.
It's mainly a mix of white, tan, and grey-- I would have MUCH preferred it if
they stuck to one color like in the UCS TIE Intercepter. It doesn't give it
the beat-up look I think they were going for-- I think it gives it a 'dumb'
look color wise.

But as for parts, general shape, etc., it's still a REALLY cool set (don't let
my beefs get in your way-- I'm stil really glad I bought it, and I'm strongly
considering buying another one...)

(...) I agree. I'm looking forward to TRU stocking up on these when they see how fast they are moving then getting stuck with a bunch after the first big rush is over then marking them way down then me buying them at like 75% off. I am also waiting (...) (24 years ago, 7-Jul-00, to lugnet.reviews, lugnet.starwars)

(...) Interesting how we disagree here... this is the one and only major beef I have with this set... The Starwars sets are the only series that LEGO has produced with well-done and fairly theme-generic detailing, and the stickers in this set are no (...) (...) I was trying to figure out where these came from... I think that they are also used as jars in one of the duplo sets... (hard to tell from the pictures). They are numbered 33008, so they are pretty new, but I wonder if they've been used (...) (24 years ago, 10-Jul-00, to lugnet.reviews, lugnet.starwars)
