(...) other real gold plating would be very expensive. The "silver" bricks are aluminum coated. Is there a gold substitute? If they used copper they would have to coat it too (and it might not be safe, since the coating could be chewed off). KL (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

It can't be too cost prohibitive. We do have gold coins, gold Amazon treasure and 4x4 gold domes just to name a few. -Nick Kevin Loch wrote in message ... (...) gold-colored (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) Err, well, I wasn't referring to *real* gold plating, but to vac-metalizing, which is the process they use on the big silver broadswords, the little Divers daggers, and (more importantly) the Spaceport gold visors and domes. They probably (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) I think the plating would have rubbed off in heavy use areas, like the joints. Having a beige C3PO is better than having one with areas of plating missing. ;) Jeff "You can't be a hero hiding underneath your bed" (URL) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) Oh, agreed, definitely, but like I said, he's not quite beige, either. Compare him to Luke's legs in the same photo... he's a slightly different color. Is this a new Lego color made just for Threepio? I looks almost like a gold pearlised or (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Re: CHEWIE & C-3PO REVEALED!!! —Christopher Tracey
I have this wierd 2x2 brick with a technic stud. It's tan but it's kind of a milky to the point of almost being semi-translucent. The color is definately different from the 'normal' tan. The C3PO fig looks the same as this brick to me. of course, (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) Nah, a C3P0 with some of the plating missing would just look like the C3P0 from the movies. 8) He was pretty beat up, after all... (Too bad they didn't give him one silver-grey leg!) J (25 years ago, 15-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

Um, not to nitpick (but I will anyway ;) ), didn't he get the silver leg in ESB? :) The Falcon has the ANH crew, after they excaped from the Death Star (Leia with buns, Tatooine Luke).         Re: CHEWIE & C-3PO REVEALED!!! —Selçuk Göre
(...) Coating is evil. It can be chipped off very easily. I can't think of a coated minifig with all the articulation.
