That is odd.
It looks to me that the canopy has two clips similar to the clips on
a "6019.dat Plate 1 x 1 with Clip Horizontal" piece that extend
rearward.
Those new pieces you mentioned look like they might have a " T " bar
arrangement to snap into the canopy clips.
Alternately, the canopy clips could have a short connecting bar
between them, and the new pieces could be simple clips that snap onto
the canopy bars. But it would be more difficult to manufacture clips
with integral bars.
Much simpler to make the "T" bar arrangement.
Whatever it is, it looks interesting. The downside of my hypothesis
is that the canopy will have these ungainly projections from the rear.
Which could pose problems when designing MOC's.

| (...) Assuming they are the same pieces (no reason for them not to be) that are in the '99 Adventurer's sets, then they are 1x2 bricks with a horizontal side rod, as previously seen only on 1x2 plates. There is a similar 1x2 brick with a verticle (...) (26 years ago, 9-Jan-99, to lugnet.starwars)
