But what the heck is all that stuff (bridges, security systems, etc.) in
the basement? In Ep V, I can see why they had the shaft for the cloud
city, but why on Naboo? The basement (if that's what it was) didn't
match anything else on the planet! It seemed totally out of place, as if
Lucas was just recalling the success of the Ep. V duel and decided to set
this duel in similar surroundings.

| I will tell you what the book said. The book noted that those barriers are a security device designed to slow down and halt intruders getting close to the basement area of the palace. Apparently they tripped the security system while on route on the (...) (26 years ago, 24-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
