What I want to know is why OBK couldn't run fast enough to make it all
the way through the barriers.  Remember how fast he and QGJ moved when
they were on the ship and facing the destroyer droids?  Then they were
moving at "ludicrous speed"

Yeah, how did they do that, anyway?!  They couldn't've fooled the battle
droids -- they're immune to Jedi mind tricks, right?

Jedi Speed.  It's a commonly (read, in more than one Star Wars book/game/etc)
used Force ability.

My personal guess as to none of them- Obi-Wan, Maul, or Qui-Gon- used it to get
through the barriers is that they were busy using the Force in other ways, like
to heighten their reflexes.  If one person swinging a saber in combat's doing
it, it's probably close to suicide for his opponent not to...

But... but... but...  OWK was doing _one_ thing - trying to run through the
barriers.  If that is not a good time to use speed, what is?

So that is not a good, complete answer.  Unless in some later movie OWK, in
retelling this story, smacks his forehead and mutters "I shoulda use Jedi
speed!".
