Which kind of makes sense, in an odd sort of way. It seems pretty clear
that the Star Wars-verse has been going into a sort of decline since the
fall of the Old Republic - at least, the rebel stuff is largely cobbled
together, etc.
Thus, when C3PO was 'new' he probably looked all sleek and modern for
his time...but over the years, he's had things replaced and changes
and jury-rigs, so when ANH rolls around, he winds up looking, well...
less modern, less high-tech.
Alternately, fashion and design trends in the SW-verse could go the way
they do in our universe - that is, they go in cycles, and when ANH is
around, 'retro' has come back into style. (After all...bellbottoms...
er, 'flares' are cool again...*shudder*)

| (...) Just got back from the theatre -- (saw the trailer 5 times, muahahaa :) Tim, You Said It!!! Man, talk about intense, and talk about a new "look & feel." This is like Star Wars Episode IV meets Dune meets Willow meets Flash Gordon meets Evel (...) (26 years ago, 18-Nov-98, to lugnet.starwars)
