As if this hasn't been hashed enough already, here is some more info for
everyone.

Given you are tyring to build a Lego Millennium Falcon in 'minifig' scale.
And given that the Lego Y-wing and X-wing are minifig scale, here are a few
numbers

Length of model     Length of 'actual' ship [1]     Studs/meter ratio
         ---------------     ---------------------------     -----------------
Y-wing   46 studs long             16 meters                  2.875
X-wing   34 studs long             12 meters                  2.833

Thus based on these two data points, it appears as if Lego space ships are
scaled to about 2.85 studs/meter.  I leave it to someone else to determine data
points for the others Lego space ships like the snowspeeder and tie-fighter,
but my guess is they will be pretty close.

Now, given that the Millennium Falcon is 27.5 meters long[1], multiplied by
2.85 gives Lego Millennium Falcon a length of 78.5 studs, or 24.7 inches.

And given that Lucas seems to be exercising some level of control over design,
I doubt he would be willing to sacrifice scale of his precious flying
hamburger[2]

The Millennium Falcon I built was scaled based on a cockpit that is 8 studs
wide.  Which drove the length of the model out to 85 studs(2.68")in length or
3.09 studs/meter.  While 8% larger, I consider that within acceptable limits.
Especially since there is much conjecture that in actuallity, the Millennium
Falcon is much larger than 27.5 meters based on all the interior shots of what
is shown inside.  Some people even say as much as 40% larger.  And since my
model is detailed in the inside with rooms, hallways etc, I justify the extra
10%.

I really hope the rumors of a christmas release of a Lego Millennium Falcon are
true, but I'm not holding my breath.  Instead, I'm building my own.

I look forward to seeing if the 2.85 studs/meter ratio holds true for other
sets.

Ben

[2] Common Star Wars folklore includes the story of how George Lucas was not
happy with the initial concepts of the Millennium Falcon as they looked to
Space 1999ish.  He finally held up the hamburger he was eating and told his
model builders to build a model that looked like it.  Hence the Flying
Hamburger/Saucer concept.

(...) Hehe.. That's funny. But it's also weird. I remember a friend of mine, who has talent for drawing, seriously depicting the MF some years ago, and I thought his picture of it looked like a hamburger and had to ask him what it was. That little (...) (26 years ago, 11-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) I thought the scale looked pretty good! Taking a minifig's footprint to be equivalent to about a foot in real life (~1/3 meter), the models are more or less scale to the minifigs as well as being scale to each other! --Bram Bram Lambrecht / o (...) (...) That's actually true- I've seen the original models. It blew. The concept modeler for A New Hope really left something to be desired... although his Star Destroyer was interesting. At any rate, there are lots of food references- for example, (...) (26 years ago, 14-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) Thanks for the info! I did a quick check of my B-Wing, and guess what? It is about 45 studs long, fitting the scale! It is 4 meters longer than an X-Wing, which comes to about 11 studs. When I built it, I wasn't even trying to scale it (...) (26 years ago, 14-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
