And I assumed it was Tarkin, too.

Yes that was Tarkin, the actor was intentionaly done up to look like a younger Peter Cushing.

Thanks for the clarification! And thanks also to James for the input!

I was surprised to realize/suspect that it was Tarkin, because I’d seen the film four or five times and never noticed before. I think I was busy checking out the skeletal frame of the Death Star out the window and didn’t notice who was hanging out on deck.

And why were Luke and Vader so much less agile than the Jedi in Eps I-III???

Luke didn’t know what he was doing and Vader was toying with him.

Still, one wonders why Vader and Kenobi confined themselves to line-fencing, rather than the all-over-the-place Jedi style. I mean, Dooku was still pretty spry when he somersaulted over that railing...

My biggest Star Wars question? At the end of Ep IV, why did the Death Star have to wait until the planet was out of the way to destroy the moon upon which the Rebels were hiding?

Because shooting through a Gas Giant to blow up an Earth sized moon requires more power than the “first Death Star” could provide.

But I think the question is why didn’t they come out of hyperspace on the moon-side of the gas giant? I know there’s some kind of “thou shalt not go near a gravity well whilst in hyperspace,” so is that the answer?

Thanks again!

Dave!

(...) The system they were coming from was on the other side of the planet. A fortunate coincidence for the Rebellion. At that point the Death Star orbited the gas giant and was using its gravity to sling shot around to the side with the moon. (A (...) (18 years ago, 22-Aug-06, to lugnet.starwars, FTX)
