Im guessing TLCs license agreement with Lucas only covers the
ships/characters/scenes that are actually seen IN the movies, not in the
various mediums outside of the movies (of course, I still cant understand
how TLC is including a TIE Droid in the new TIE Fighters pack instead of an
Interceptor!).

There are rumors (unsubstantiated, AFAIK) that the TIE Droid will either show up
in Ep3 or be inserted into at least one of the DVD releases of the original
trilogy. If these rumors had popped up independantly, Id suggest taking them
with most of the state of Utah (including a certain large lake), but weve been
told on more than one occassion, by official sources, that TLCs license does
not extend to the Expanded Universe. Unless that license has been tweaked, or a
loophole exists that allows them to either include the TIE Droid with three
other full canon ships or as part of a S@H exclusive, the only way they should
be able to get away with this is if there really will be a TIE Droid in one of
the movies. Since Ep3 is still over half a year away, and there has been an
official street date for both Ep1 and Ep2 product, that pretty much rules out
the idea that well see TIE Droids in Ep3, but Lucas has already shown that he
considers the original trilogy to be a perpetual work-in-progress, and hes also
borrowed at least one idea from the EU (Ki-Adi-Mundi) for the prequel trilogy.

| (...) Um, I did post this to the Star Wars group, right? I didn't think I made a cross post into Space... As for why X-Wings, Y-Wings & TIEs seem to be the most popular - well, in the 3 movies, they are the fighters shown the most often. The Rebels (...) (20 years ago, 4-Sep-04, to lugnet.starwars, FTX)
