I hope there are more sets in coming years.  I'm really hoping that the
sereis continues until 2002 with the World Cup in Japan/South Korea.

I'd be interested in seeing your grandstand modifications.  I was
considering extending the seats from the grandstands on the corners to wrap
around each corner (so to speak).  Instead I decided to place the shop and
medical pieces from Super Sport Coverage in the corners during phase 2.
Those will be the cheap seats.

I hadn't thought about locker rooms yet.  I was planning on modifying the
Motorcycle Shop set I found at a garage sale this summer into a team shop.
I figured that it could sell balls, binoculars, pennents, hats, jerseys
(uniformed minifig torsos), video tapes, and megaphones.

Right, I have a set of those. What I meant was that it would have been nice if
LEGO had created a set to go with the new soccer series (2001, 2002?). I would
like to see that and some other things, like the World Cup series has. I like
your ideas for building a stadium. I've been planning something similar around
the new field. However, I'm experimenting with extending the small grandstands
to include four or more rows of chairs instead of the two that it comes with.
I'll post some pictures if I ever get around to do it (not a lot of spare time
at the moment, I've been working 70 hrs. a week. Any building usually takes
place after 1 am or so). Other ideas I have are to create a parking lot/garage
for spectators, and locker rooms.

I started building last night. So far I have combined two stands and various pieces from a red lego bucket (#?) I ended up with a stand that has three rows of normal seats plus one row of "box" seats. I also combined four white roof pieces to create (...) (24 years ago, 11-Nov-00, to lugnet.sports)
