Question for large-scale builders... —James Brown
How do you deal with model flexing? I'm working on a 6' ship right now, and would like to be able to support it from a single point, but I don't think I can without having the ship look like it was left in the sun too long. :( Anyone have (...) (24 years ago, 2-Apr-01, to lugnet.space)

Re: Question for large-scale builders... —Scott C. Beaton
James, I to am building a rather large scale spacecraft 3-4ft range. I had a problem with flex as well, my solution was to build the ship along a central "keel" much like a modern day ocean going vessel, I also divided the interior up into sections (...)         Re: Question for large-scale builders... —Jason S. Mantor
My 5+ foot star destroyer relies on a honeycomb-like structure and 3 partial keels for strength. Almost every piece in the hull is structural since it interlocks with those around it and distributes the load. It's taking a real-long time to finish (...)      (...) The Gibraltar is 5 feet long and sits on 6 landing struts, though I found out that the 2 front struts are not needed.    (...) Yup, apparantly. :) Thanks for all the feedback. I reworked about half of my central beam last night using some of the suggestions here, and it's working out much better; no flex at all, and I can't put enough weight on it to shear the beam (...)
