I was totally surprised that I had won. After I saw the other entries, I didn’t think I had a chance. I’m glad I didn’t have to judge the contest, there were just too many good bots entered.

The ring piece your asking about was the piece I started with and based the bot around:



And then to get the purple dish to fit tight against it, I used a minifig screwdriver down the center. Also you can take the dish right off and put a minifig head on it. Then it looks like a cool minifig exo-skeleton.
