MIFFLIN Prime Merchant John Riley

(Mercantile Interstellar Fleet of Freighters, Liners, and Intergalactic Navigators)

This is a nice build John...I spotted it a few days ago and was wondering if someone was going to post about it.

The ‘collection of cannisters’ look tells of it’s port industrial purpose. The colour scheme is pleasing and the towline w/functional crank is definately my favourite feature.

By the looks of your signature, we can hope to see some more tugs, tows and civvie ships? I hope so!

Cheers, -Gil

Thanks, Gil. Yes, I’m thinking along the lines of doing mostly civilian ships. I’m currently working on (slowly, I started it in November) a large freighter, one that would have no problem pulling the Vanguard solo. Think Taiidan Fighter from Homeworld crossed with SW Ep2 Republic Dropship in terms of shape, but bulked up. Its function would be similar to a tractor trailer or locomotive; I’ve developed a hitching function that works similarly to the scissor mechanicism that drives the propeller on the Air Blazer helicopter. I’m thinking about adding retractable landing gear, as well, although my first attempt at that was a little shaky (i.e. the ship tipped over). All because I want to build some big honkin’ engines. :) And then I have to build something for it to deliver.

I’m also thinking along the lines of doing a salvage ship, since there’s been a few posted recently that were interesting. Although the A.N.T. could be used for a salvage craft...

The A.N.T. did end up quite playable, with the retractable towline, posable landing gear (click hinges were made for landing gear, IMO). The cockpit is sturdier than it looks: I “tried” to break the cockpit last night. I accidently bumped it off my coffee table, and the only thing that fell apart was a landing gear foot that was extended when it fell.

I think my next .space post will be a micro moonbase, though. That freighter is a long term project; the way my fellow DixieLUGgers have been twisting my arm, I think I’ll finish it up in time for Brickfest DC, and hitch a ride with one of them.

Back to reading posts. John
