I’m not real keen on bump posts, and I don’t usually like to see them.(1)

The best bump posts, in my view, are the ones that you don’t realise are actually bumps, because the post talks about a new facet of the topic or brings additional information up, or whatever, so that the reader gets a new reason to think about the topic.

Those posts, skillfully done, perform the same bump function but have the additional bonus of actually adding more value to the thread.

I hope those thinking of out and out bumping would consider this approach whenever possible. Hope that helps.

I'm not one to go stirring up potential arguements but I too wondered if anyone had actually noticed the post - the only indication of its function is the hit counters on (...) (21 years ago, 14-Jan-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
