Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

Ok, all you .space folks, consider this model my tribute to the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite sets growing up. Coming in at somewhere over 10 pounds, and at over 27 inches in length is a 3-times-scale model of the LL924 Space Cruiser: (...) (...) Eric, this is super super cool! DO you have any pictures of the 3x minifig? I'd be interested in seeing closer shots of him. Thanks -lenny (21 years ago, 8-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

(...) So that's what you needed all the blue round tiles for. Really cool Eric - I'll bet it was a pretty welcome relief from your commisioned models. It's sort of hard to distinguish what pieces were used to simulate what, and to get the exact (...) (21 years ago, 8-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

(...) LOL! I kept having to look at the picture more closely to check what scale it was. Great job! Cheers, (URL) Sci-Fi LEGO> (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

(...) eric, I would have bet some serious money against you getting that ship done as quickly as you did. Impressive, most impressive. My only question (and forgive me if it's in the narrative, but I didn't see it if it is): does the 3x forklift (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

The shovel on the forklift does go up and down (using lego elastic bands). The only problem is that it can't lift the white box from the ship because of the weight of the box. The heavy box causes the lift to separate... it would function fine if I (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

(...) What a beautiful illusion. Like others, I had to toggle back and forth to get a sense of the construction. The stud capping is brilliant. But that up for auction and I'm sure you can retire afterwards. :) Cheers, -G (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

(...) Yah, me too. When I saw the first picture on the main page my first thought was "okay, why is there a picture of the old classic space set there? Aren't you supposed to be building a scale model?" This is such a great idea. It makes me want to (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

Eric, Beautiful! 487 was my first large set as a kid, so this is a really nostalgic MOC for me. You did the scale-up so well that it's hard to see the scale until you have the picture of the maxi-sized and classic 487 next to eachother. The mini (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Eric, That is really impressive, and I can't think of anything more to say than has already been said in praise of you and your creation! One really minor note of quibble: I believe that technically what you've created is a 27-times-scale (...) (21 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)

Re: Super Sized 924 (Classic) Space Cruiser

I don't know if having a Master's in Mathematics qualifies me as a 'proper mathematician', but I will confirm that yes, this could techincally be referred to as a 27X model... But I think a 3X reference is equally valid (it's more a matter of (...) (21 years ago, 12-Sep-03, to lugnet.space)
