For larger MOCs, I usually think of a small idea, like a cargo bay, or a door,
or something like that, and then I mentally build a ship around the idea. Then,
I'll draw a floor plan on graph paper, calculating how many pieces I need for
the walls, ceilings, and floors. Then I start building. Normally, I don't stick
exactly to the floorplan, because of structural problems that I couldn't figure
out on paper.
For smaller MOCs, I just start building once I have a basic idea in my head,
adding anything I think would look cool.
