Thanks for all of the positive commentary. I really appreciate it!

Concerning the landing gear: The 4x4 black plate that is connected to the tilt
hinges also rests against the dark grey pad, just inside of the light grey tile.
This forms a nice triangle to handle the load. Actually, the compression of the
tremendous weight of this ship seems to make the landing gear system stronger
and more stable. It really doesn't budge at all. The system was originally
designed to be motorized, so that all 3 gear extend/retract simultaneously. All
of the necessary gears and chain are in place to accomplish this, but I have
concerns about the additional weight of the motor and battery pack. The
'avionics package' that rests along the spine between the wings pops out,
allowing for a drop-in motor/battery unit. I doubt that I'll ever bother to try
to make the motor system work though, since this ship will always be dispalyed
resting on its extended gear.

Also, I forgot to mention that the wings are removable. Remove the dark grey
plates near the airbrakes, and the wings 'unplug' from the fuselage. This allows
the ship to be packaged into a much smaller space for easy transportation.
Building and maintenance of the fuselage/landing gear is a lot easier with the
wings off. I find that the bigger I build, modular construction becomes
essential.

I'm going to try to get my scanner working today so I can upload photos of my
other two big ships. They were built in 1992 and 1993, so they may look dated.
But, I still think they're pretty cool.

Thanks again

(...) <snip> (...) I can tell--the landing pad is far too small for that enormous ship! :) I love it. The multilevel airfoils are especially effective--they make the ship cut a different "look" from front to rear. My favorite is the 3/4 after (...) (22 years ago, 1-Aug-02, to lugnet.space)
