The Ultimate LEGO Book, on page 18, says "1979 First Space Kit." Maybe they
date these like cars, you can get the 2001 model in the year 2000, 2000 in
1999, etc. Maybe they call these 1979 models that were released in 1978?

(Hey, I'm a proud pedant! :-) Not only did the writer there use the word "kit" instead of "set" or "building set," but the first LEGOLAND Space sets were announced in 1978 -- (...) | (...) Off-topic: Cars are not really dated that way. Automobiles have a model year. October 1st is the new year for cars, which is why the 2000 models came out in October. Not just two different, conflicting dates in the same book, but on the same page, in two adjacent paragraphs! Argh. Darn marketing/public relations (...)
