Well I have finished crude versions of every Kushan, Taiidan, Turanic, and
Somtaaw ship.  This was like slave labor, and note I said crude.  I'll have
to do several revisions of each.  For one, the proportions may be a few LU
off.  Two, the geometry of Homeworld ships proved extremely tough to mimic,
especially since I stopped buying lego sets in 2000, and I was never into
technic.  The key so far has been piles and piles of slopes--lots of those
roofing service packs.  Those little black square 1x1 flat panels have also
proved essential because that's the only thing that looks suitable for the
cockpits.  The fighters look very blocky, but I used 1\2 of the coupling (ya
know, the one that seperates into two pieces) turned backwards to add some
"flair"--heh.  The fighters are probably as good as they'll ever be since
it's difficult to work within a 3x3x1 space and build a masterpiece.  Oh
well, they look imposing in squadrons of 12 and swarms of 50 or so anyway.

--The following section is only for those of you who have played Homeworld
and\or a Warhammer type tabletop game...otherwise you'll be lost--
My friends and I also laid out the rules for the tabletop wargames we'd play
with the ships.  It's intended to be a campaign, where capturing enemy ships
and protecting resource fields is vital, but we just did a huge practice
game with every ship available to us to work out some bugs.  There were
alot.  So many that I won't even release the crude rules at this time due to
how disproportionate the final game will be.  For instance, the Acolyte
Interceptors are cheaper than Attack Bombers, however their missiles do more
damage than the bombs, travel faster, and they are extremely fast
dogfighters as well.  Hrmph.  If any of you have ever played Warhammer,
that's alot what the game is like.  Based on the max speed of the unit
(obtained from reliable sites and guides) we did a system based on movement
inches.  Dreadnoughts are also horribly, horribly overpowered.  Though in
the actual game a Heavy Cruiser might be able to take out two dreadnoughts,
in our version th Dreadnought was a wrecking machine--it put the finisher on
all three Heavy Cruisers present and ate destroyers as a midday snack.  The
ramming frigates are very fun to play around with.  Nothing like making your
opponent waste a turn by pushing him back where he was before he moved.
It's a turn-based game, so there's not alot we can do if you think this is
unfair or cheap.  Ion Array, Cannon, and plain old Ion Frigates are just
plain bad.  This is because you can only manuever during the move phase.
We're thinking about changing this so you get to move anytime during your
turn.  This is because the frigates, with their linear weapon, would line
up, strike a target, and be done with it, even though their beams still had
duration in them and they could have swept around to fry some corvettes.
The whole strike craft situation is insanely fun, because we have so many.
I gave the rest of my friends plans to build the fighters and they all
brought their own along.  Since each fighter is around 10 pieces, we had
300+ fighters present.  About 600 fighters were actually used since we'd put
destroyed models back in when carriers used their manufacturing option.  A
fun strategy I used was to mix cheap, easy-to-kill recons in with my groups
of superiority fighters.  Since when dealing with squadrons, the opponent
will hit a random model, the recons made effective chaff--they're also
decent kamikazes.  I took a picture of my living room floor, complete with
around 30 capital ships, ~80 frigates, ~150 corvettes, and 300+ fighters.
You can't make out much in the strike craft or frigate department except for
my block of 30 Acolytes. Destroyers are noticeable but not in detail.  Once
I find a scanner I'll put this up but be warned these are crude models, some
with 10-color color schemes.

Also, it'll be awhile before you see the big models like the Naggarok, the
Heavy Cruisers, and the Command Ship.  I'm working from the bottom up.
Currently I am putting detail and organizing the color scheme of my Vettes.
The color scheme so far is black and grey simply because I have about 100x
more bricks in those colors.  Later, however, you'll see my fleet flying the
royal Red & Yellow, along with my friend's Blue and Green.  The other guys
don't have fleet colors yet.  Excpect pics of my ships within 2 weeks or so
(I'm very busy with finals and school).  By that time I should have pumped
out the first destroyer on my list, the Taiidan variant.  I'll take some
shots of it chomping on some Heavy Corvettes and Multibeam Frigates.

Yeah, I do ramble alot--but I only post every couple days.

Well I don't know if any of you care, or if any of you have ever played Homeworld or Cataclysm, for that matter. But for the minority who do, I slaved away until I finally was able to make the fighters in nano\microfig. As soon as I get a scanner (...) (23 years ago, 2-Jan-02, to lugnet.space)
