The others have mentioned the white gear is a clutch gear. I thought I'd throw out a practical use to put it into perspective: it's ideal for a motorized gripper, where you'd want the grip to have some resistance as it closes, but not so much torque (...) (...) The white gears are a slip gear. To explain it put one on a motor and make it spin. Now grab on to it and it will stop and turn inside. If a gear or wheel gets bound, the clutch in the clutch gear slips and protects the motor form burning out. Anyone had any motor problems with their Discovery set? The other night one of my motors refused to run every now and then(motor was just connected to the scout). It turns out that the thin portions of the FO cables are the same thickness (or virtually the same, for all practical purposes) as the inside components of LEGO TECHNIC Flex System cables! An observation... It is well-documented that the Scout can communicate with the Micro Scout using its red-light emmiter. The optic fibers transmit light quite well for this purpose with one drawback - only one end of the fiber has a connector. I've (...) NQC 2.1 b1 is available at (URL) two "big" features are fast firmware downloading (4x speed) and preliminary support for the Scout. Emphasis on "preliminary".
