Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) Whoops, I missed that there was a third option. I concur with this, as it's both the right voltage and confirmed AC. The mA rating, BTW, is a capacity rating, so it will work for anything that draws 800mA or less. The NXT adapter is rated for (...) (17 years ago, 11-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) All my train PSUs are 10V AC, but are rectified and regulated to a nice 9V internally. (17 years ago, 11-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

Usually AC will either say AC or have a ~ symbol. DC will either say DC or have a symbol that looks like = or _-_ -Rob A> (...) (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) The AT&T 9v AC 800mA supply sounds just about right. (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) _ALWAYS_ assume DC on an actual power adapter (at least in the US). Most AC devices will just use a simple cord, like you'd find on a portable stereo. A handful of devices will need AC power in a non-standard voltage and will use DC-like power (...) (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) The one used for the RCX may be, but the NXT power supply is sold as a different item, and is listed as a 10VAC adapter vs. the 9VAC adapters used by trains and various other systems. Not that it matters unless you also buy the Li-Ion battery (...) (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) I now have a Dynamic Instruments 16VAC 375mA, AT&T AC 9V 800mA, and a Black & Decker 9V 200mA from a Dust Buster but it does not say if it is DC or AC, I am assuming AC. Which one should I use? I am hoping the AT&T but the 800mA makes me a (...) (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) It's the same PSU as used for the 9V train controllers. (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) The wall wart for my RCX says "output 10.8VAC 700mA 8w" so it sounds like the rectifier is in the RCX, not the wall wart. (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) Wow, I do not have a 10V AC adapter but I am sure I can get one at Radio Shack. Thanks a million, Tom (17 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
