Re: RCX assembly instructions of Lego quality

Don’t forget Nostarch Press! They have 2 great books that are definitely worth looking at including Jin Sato's LEGO® MINDSTORMS The Master's Technique. I had the privilege of building his robotic dog last night and really had a lot of fun with it. (...) (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  BricxCC release 3.3.7.2

Version 3.3.7.2 of BricxCC is now available. It fixes a bug in the Brick Piano (introduced in the previous version) which made it impossible to save the music to a file or to the clipboard. Music saved from the Brick Piano can now be in NQC, (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: no long range IR from laptop says Lego

(...) Its USB descriptors say there are two configurations with 100mA (I think these are for low and medium power), and two that require 500mA (high power mode). The LEGO USB Tower Interface Reference doesn't go into more details. Jürgen (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: no long range IR from laptop says Lego

Kindly offline I am informed: yes indeed, some laptop designs have been seen to support less than half of the specified 500mA max load for USB bus power. I wonder how many mA the USB IR tower does need. Pat LaVarre (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: RCX assembly instructions of Lego quality

(...) Hi Pat, Syngress has two books out dedicated to RCX models. (URL) One of the Robots in the Ultimate Builder's book is mine. It is a two legged walker. The newsgroup (URL) is dedicated to building instructions. From there you can get to the (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

no long range IR from laptop says Lego

Does the Lego USB IR tower, when set to long range, sometimes draw more than the 500mA allowed? Or do laptops generally not reliably supply 500mA? Or are we facing some deeper analog issue here, like not ramping up to 500mA from less mA fast enough (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: usb to ris 1.x rcx ir how

(...) Contributing evidence includes the Lego claim that the entire new kit can be made to work in Win XP: (URL) happy to announce that Robotics Invention System 2.0 will install and run on Windows XP, if special installation instructions are (...) (...) Ah, slowly I clue in, thanks, now I have found: Lego Mindstorms(TM) 2.0 Upgrade Kit (3805) (URL) to itself that page appears labelled with only "2.0 Upgrade Kit". (...) Thanks for saying. Back at that link, I see only Win 98/ME mentioned, no (...) (22 years ago, 11-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: reading music thru an RCX

(...) Thanks for the news, I'll look forward to that release. (...) As yet this I am unable to evaluate. I wonder if I've grabbed the right stuff to convey to my RCX? (URL) Two releases, 2003-01-15: (URL) 2002-12-05: (URL) tried 2003-01-15. I see (...) (22 years ago, 10-Feb-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: reading music thru an RCX

(...) Something quite like what you describe is the Brick Piano in BricxCC. Unfortunately, in the current release there is a nasty bug that I just added which makes the Brick Piano mostly useless at the moment. It is fixed in the next release (which (...)
