  Re: Required tools for assembly

I have a really nice, and very expensive (somebody gave it to me), Tech 2432A dual trace scope with storage. I have also built about 20 boards of various kinds, some of my own design. The scope has lots of dust on it, although it looks great on the (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Handyboard in mix with SSC II Servo Controller

Hi, We are trying to conntect Handyboard to SSC II Mini Servo Controller so we can control more servo motors. Can anyone tell us how to connect these two pieces and work them together? Also, where is the serial output of the Handyboard, and ground? (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: recharging battery

(...) You will need some good equipment, or you will need lots of patience and a good DVM. Here are the steps to rejuvinating old NiCds IF they can be recovered. If they have suffered the effects of overcharging (common) then they may not be (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Interfaced your Sonar with HB

Hi Everyone! It looks like Frankie Lai has found a way to interface the sonar I have on my site to the HB. Here are his comments: (...) hihi, me again......I think you know already, but I would like to precise it. The echo line through NOT gate is (...)   Pull-up resistors

I would like to attach a LM34 to my miniboard. In testing the LM34 at a room temperature of 60F, the device gives me a reading of .6V. The docs say that every 10mv=1F, so it seems to be working correctly. When I attach it to one of the analog ports (...) (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: handy board troubles...

great, that's excellent! the key trick was pulling all the socketed chips. it's a weird but true fact that chips that don't have valid logic supplies can draw power in from their inputs pins (when the inputs are high) and operate off of that leeched (...)   Re: handy board troubles...

(...) I traced the lack of power to a dead wire between C5 and pin 28 of U14; soldering a small piece of wire between these connections fixed it. Thanks, everything works perfectly now! (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: handy board troubles...

that's possible, it's easy enough to test (just check continuity across F1). more likely that U14 croaked. is there batt pwr on its input side. f. In your message you said: (...) (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  recharging battery

hi all i have come across some old batteries and want to know the best way to charge them. the batteries are from mobile radios. motorola. 7.5V. 1200mAh. Nickel-Cadmium. can someone enlighten me on the best method to rejuvenate and charge these type (...) (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: handy board troubles...

(...) Yes, that was indeed the problem. Upon removing all the ICs, the power to U14 disappeared. What could cause this, a blown fuse at F1? (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: servo ports on Exp board...help?

Hi again, I should have mentioned this in the first message. In our case, the motor that was causing the problems was a fan motor (to blow out a candle) and it was completely electrically isolated from all of the other circuitry. It had its' own (...)   Re: handy board troubles...

re: this problem with the memory contents not persisting, check the separate power supply to the RAM (U14). you might need to remove all socketed ICs from the board 'cause power can bleed to chips via input pins. also check that U12 the DS1233 is (...)   Re: servo ports on Exp board...help?

Hi, We saw this exact problem last year. Our servos went so crazy that they actually destroyed their gears and had to be scrapped. The fix is simple, solder a capacitor across the motor leads. The motor causes noise on the lines which the servo (...) (25 years ago, 21-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  servo ports on Exp board...help?

Hi the servo ports on my expboard seem to work fine, but when the servos are'nt active ( init_expbd_servos(0); ) and a motor is turned on the ports go crazy , servos will turn eratically, with hacked servos they just move in one direction. Would a (...) (25 years ago, 21-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: handy board troubles...

(...) Yes! I apologize, I meant "..._without_ the RJ11 cord connected..." Is it possible a surge could have fried the RAM and now it won't hold memory? That was my contention, but I'm not sure...   Re: Acroname robotics...

(...) Acroname certainly seems to be the best source for the GP2D12 and Polaroid sonar. (...) I'm a fool, too. That's why I went with the fully assembled & tested Handy Board from Patrick Hui. The only things I had to add were the NiCd battery and (...) (25 years ago, 21-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: handy board troubles...

I've also got a servo which I can't figure out how to drive from the exp. board, but the problem of the RAM discharging happens even (...) (25 years ago, 21-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Acroname robotics...

I am looking to buy a Handy Board, Expansion Board, motors, GP2D12 sensors, Polaroid 6500 instrument package, and maybe the Eltec sensor. I will likely use Acroname, as they appear to have pretty good prices and I can save a few $$ on shipping. Has (...) (25 years ago, 21-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
