  Re: IC Timing

(...) I don't know if this is really the best way to do it, but I hacked this up real quick for a previous project. You put the stuff you want to time inside the loop. It will print out the numer of times the loop executes per second. The display is (...) (28 years ago, 27-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IC Timing

How do you time a running process? I would like to prune the running time of a part of my IC program running in the HandyBoard, to improve the response of my sensor testing. I assume you could set a clock and then sample it later but I am a little (...) (28 years ago, 27-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  'Cher' responses

Ok, I got it. Apparently my service provider wasn't keeping any of my mail, so I didn't get any of your first responses to my question. Anyway, thanks to all of you for replying a second time. Patrick (28 years ago, 26-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: "cher" archives

Hi Patrick, I don't know if cher has a web server on it, but you can ftp anonymously to: cher.media.mit.edu login: anonymous password: <your e-mail address> Check in the /pub/projects (I think). Good luck! - Prabal (...) (28 years ago, 26-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: "cher" archives - Resend

Well, I tried to send this out when Patrick first asked, but apparently it didn't make it -- here's the second try: (...) (28 years ago, 26-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  "cher" archives

(...) but here goes: I've noticed more than a few referrals to "the cher archives" since I've been on this mailing list, but I haven't figured out how to get there. Can someone give me the URL, and maybe tell me if there is a way to look up specific (...) (28 years ago, 26-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Thanks for HandyBoard

(...) This may not be EXCATLY what you have requested, but it is a close as I've come! Check out how I've added contrast control to my LCD panel.   Thanks for HandyBoard

I am a vetern kit builder with my roots in the hayday of HeathKit, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all concerened in the design and production of the HandyBoard. Of all the controllers I have purchased this one has been the most (...) (28 years ago, 25-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Forth on HandyBoard?

Is it possible to program the HandyBoard in 'Forth'? If so how does one go about it? I assume the compiled Forth program must be further converted into a PCode. Is there a version of Forth that does that at compilation? Anyone know where to look? (...) (28 years ago, 25-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  thanks! (problem fixed)

Thanks to all the extremely useful information everyone was able to provide me, I have been able to fix my COM port problem. I changed some CMOS settings, moved the internal modem's IRQ to 10, and configured the new port as COM2, with a new IRQ. (...) (28 years ago, 24-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  REC80 Transmit

Folks, After writing code to decode REC80 signals I got inspired to write code to transmit them as well. But I sat on the idea for quite a while and didn't get around to it until now. So this weekend I worked on the idea and it is now complete. What (...) (28 years ago, 24-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Edit within IC

How can we edit file without quit IC, I don't have emacs in computer, so can i use like the ms-dos edit. Thanx. Hachemi (28 years ago, 24-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  adding a third serial port

(...) I agree that this is a most annoying problem. On the other hand, other types of computers get away from this problem by not being so expandable. Some day, when "plug and play" actually is implemented by most of the hardware vendors, some of (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: pc com port woes

(...) Yes, you need to use a serial card inside your computer that offers add'l com ports. It isn't clear from your message if that is what you have. If so, the trick you are missing is that multiple com ports cannot share the same IRQ. Most or all (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: pc com port woes

There is away around this. Configure your com ports to use a different IRQ. Typically the second parallel port IRQ (5) is available. If neither your modem nor your com ports will do this then you will need to buy a new com port board that has (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Using low voltage motors

In your message you said: (...) What do you mean, "from the 20V range"? the HB supplies about 8 to 9v to its motor outs. a 30 ohm resistor would be about right for the 200mA current level. The resistor would drop 6v leaving about 2 for the motors. (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  pc com port woes

Today, for the first time, I decided to actually try out the new version of IC on my new Pentium, running Win 95. To make a long story short, it doesn't work. Why? Because I've got two devices, my mouse and my internal modem, which are always (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Using low voltage motors

I'm using two low voltage motors that come attached to a really cool gear box. Or rather I want to use these motors. Each seems to work best at about 2.0 V. When running they draw about 200 mA. I tried running them in series with a 40 Ohm resistor (...) (28 years ago, 23-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: HB pins ?

(...) Each sensor "connector" is a column of pins in the following format, where "X" denotes a pin position: X X X So, if you look at the lower edge of the HB, you have 16 positions in a bank of 9 and 7: XXX...XXX XXXXXXX XXX...XXX XXXXXXX XXX...XXX (...)   Re: HB pins ?

(...) Check out a diaram that I uploaded to cher. It's in postscript as well as GIF format. It has all of this suff on it (and more). I made it out of frustration while I was working on my HB! It's at ftp://cher.media.mit...b/schmalz/ as well as a (...) (28 years ago, 22-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
