  Smoking serial/charger board...!!!

Well, Today I dig up my handyboard which was working fine with the serial/sharger board and all the last time I used it a few months ago. After a fresh overnight NiCd charge using the onboad power connector (i.e. not using the serial/charger board), (...) (27 years ago, 24-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: New list member

Regarding your problem with the jack on the serial line getting hot and melting (uh oh), I believe it is because the HB and Mini-SSC serial lines aren't quite compatable. If you're lucky, you might be getting data through (random coincidence?), but (...) (27 years ago, 23-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  2nd line of display

I was wondering how to access the 2nd line of the display directly. In my application I would like to update the bottom line without changing the top line. Anyone know any way to do this? Any other info on direct positioning of the cursor? Thanks, (...) (27 years ago, 23-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  New list member

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new mailing list member. I've been reading the archives for a while, but my workplace only got the mailer working correctly to external locations yesterday. Anyway, I got my HB a while ago from Digital (...) (27 years ago, 23-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Load Capacitance of the 8MHz crystal?

Salutations, all, I'm putting together a couple boards, and Mouser has (unfortunately) discontinued the part number listed in the parts list. There are, however, several 8MHz crystals of an appropriate size in the catalog, but I don't have an old (...) (27 years ago, 23-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Obtaining the Handyboard in the UK

I have check with Customs & Excise in the UK and they say that there is no ?145 limit so obtaining the board from Hong Kong seems like a better idea and getting the enclosures from the states on their own (the charger needs to be obtained in the UK (...)   Re: Converting servos + other stuff

(...) Servos work well, but are constrained to relatively light robots (less thana three pounds. You can use them on heavier robots if you install a bearing axle for the wheels and just use the servo to drive the wheel. Basically the servo wasn't (...)   Converting servos + other stuff

hello, Yall! I'm trying to find a good source for motors, but to no avail.Has anyone tried using modified servos, as described in 'mobile robots'(Jones and Flynn)? It seems kind of expensive, but these appear to be pretty good quality stuff. (...) (27 years ago, 23-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  i/c board as battery charger

Hi, I've just succesfully assembled the hb kit i got from Digital Micro and attached it to a 2 wheel differential drive chassis. I'm very pleased with the handy board, but it's been a bit annoying when i'm downloading pcode and it takes the board a (...) (27 years ago, 22-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Obtaining the Handyboard in the UK

Does anybody know if it is possible to get the Handyboard in kit form or assembled in the UK. The problem with ordering from the USA is that customs charge taxes/duty on goods over ?145 ($237 approx.) which increases the cost. Thanks in advance for (...)   Re: LM34 temp sensor to handy board?

(...) Depends on the specific version of the LM34, I believe mine can read between -50 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. ---...--- Jeff Keyzer UCSD EE Major jkeyzer@ucsd.edu (URL) (27 years ago, 22-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: LM34 temp sensor to handy board?

Jeff, I used a couple of the 10mV/deg Kelvin ones, with nothing more than the current load resistor, ie no amplification at all. For example, freezing point = zero celcius = 273 Kelvin = 2.73 volts. With the 6811 resolution of about 20 mV (5v / (...) (27 years ago, 22-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  headers

This may sound like a dumb question, but I don't know where to get headers. Digi Key has some but 4 different kinds. The parts list says nothing except 14 pin female header. Nothing else. Where did you get your headers and what are the part numbers? (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Servo control using Miniboard slaved

Chuck: I agree with you; what I've done with the MiniSSC is to break the path into a set of linear segments with via points in joint space. The lynxmotion arm ends up needing a lot of points (therefore moving pretty slowly) to avoid jerkiness, but (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
