  digital outputs

Just to be clear, I wanted to ask if I am right to think that the HB, with no expansions, is configurable for ONLY 5 digital outputs? I'm aware of the #9 pin on the output bus. It works fine. But, if someone could explain in more detail the J6 (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  I agree-

More servo outputs would be great. I too would like to control a lynxmotion arm with the handyboard. Or perhaps a legged robot with servos or servo controlled hydraulics. I vote for more outputs.   Re: expansion board schematic posted

It is largely a space issue, not only for chips but connectors. It definitely would be feasible to remove one of the analog muxes and substitute an output latch in its place. Then the specs would be 8 general purpose, 4 hi impedance, 4 LEGO analog (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  shaft encoder routines

now available for connecting break-beam or reflective encoders to analog inputs 0 through 6. See the main page (URL) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: expansion board schematic posted

I've got one comment "balance". The expansion board adds 24 new inputs and only 6 new outputs. Perhaps I'm atypical but I don't need any more inputs to the handy board, I've got those aplenty, but I'm screaming for outputs to control other parts of (...)   Re: FW: expansion board schematic posted

(...) Hmmm... why not do this? Use a 74273 and tie it to the HB's data lines and strobe it with Y0 (or Y2 or Y4)? This would create a latched output "port" at address 0x4000. Tie two of the 74273 outputs to the 'A' side of two [N]AND gates (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Communication Problems!!!

i'm having problems with my handyboard communicating with my mac. i cannot seem to get either one to recognize each other in any way. when i jumper the max32 to the 25 pin connector as said in the assembly, the green LED goes on. however, i cannot (...) (...) Since there's some prototyping area, why not just make them regular CMOS signals and include application notes on the web page on how to use the signals for various options. How does the expansion board mount? Looks like it plugs into the top (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) I completely and totally concur, even down to the PS. More outputs are VERY VERY VERY VERY much needed!!! (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  expansion board schematic posted

Hi all, I have put on the web site a schematic drawing of the expansion board as it currently stands. I would appreciate any comments regarding the feature set. In particular, I'm not sure what's best to do with the two digital outputs: * just (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  AS11 IC?

Where can I get the assembler AS11 IC which is mentioned in The Handy Board Technical Reference Manual? I have found only a MAC version and I am using a PC. Thank you, Edwin (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Range finding question?

Hi! I'm looking for a way to tell the range between my board and an 'active' point that is between 5 and 500 meters away. What I mean by active is that at this point I could install some kind of beacon or transceiver which could echo signals sent by (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IC

Is Newton Labs doing _any_ development at all with IC? Seems to me like the final version was originally planned to come out about a year ago. ---...--- Jeff Keyzer jkeyzer@ucsd.edu UCSD Aerial Robotics Team (URL) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Expansion board

When is the release date for the expansion board or is it still up in the air? Thanks. Keith Keith Soldavin kas219@email.psu.edu (URL) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IR o/ps

Hi, and my obsession with IR sensors continue.... In the infrared transmission circuit of the handy board, if i connect one more LED (HLMP1700) in parallel, can i drive the two LED's at the same time? Will there be sufficient power to drive the (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Motors????

Well, I am about to get over the shock of frying my L293's. Now to address the motor issue. 1) What kind of permanent magnet motor can I use on a bot that is about 9 inch in diameter. Right now I have the two gear reduction motors that really work (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  memory

1. Is there a way of expanding the 32K memory in the HB? How? 2. I want to reduce the weight of my project by changing the battery. Is it possible to operate the HB at lower voltage since I'm not using the motor drivers for my project? If so, what's (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
