Re: Why Java for Robots (university vs hobbyists)

(...) Maybe we are at cross purposes here. You may be right, that for many hobbyists, Java is too advanced and complex, and since their needs are simpler, C is more than enough. Ease of use and low cost is probably more important than computing (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Why do you say that? I thought we were discussing Java on robotics. You said Java for small robots was not practical. I presented our system as but one implementation which works. (...) That's the total *available* memory. The JVM is in (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Future Mindstorm Releases?

Rumors say, danger exists, LEGO could take the robotic products, like the RIS, out of their production line. Indicated by no successor to RIS 2.0 is in sight. What you say below is entirely true, up to a point. Note that most Lego stuff (and this is true outside Lego -- it applies to most controller code I've seen for robotics) is now using bytecode interpreters. The memory advantages far outweigh the CPU (...) (20 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

That's for connecting two slaves and it's very limiting as to what the two slaves can do to each other - it looks to me as though only bulk transfer is available. There are lots (...)   Bluetooth?

I'm not up to speed on bluetooth technology, but I got to thinking about a possibility of something similar to Vision Command using Bluetooth. Can a computer with bluetooth talk to more than one device at once? The idea is to have a wireless (...) (20 years ago, 9-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

On another list, we've spent some time researching differential GPS. Turns out it's not as simple as having two GPS units compare notes.
