Folks, We'd like to categorize the robot/invention photos that have been uploaded to legomindstorms.com. I've come up with a tentative list of categories that I wanted to show the group before we begin the process of tagging the existing collection. (...) (25 years ago, 1-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Ummmm, WELCOME! <snipped many good categories> (...) I am assuming a mailer problem or you forgot the "r" at the end... :-) Will users be able to categorize their own inventions, and will there be more than one category per invention? If I (...)       (...) Hmm, Russell's message wasn't actually sent through mail -- it was posted via the web: (URL) this browser: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Mac_PowerPC) According to the raw HTTP/CGI logs for recently posted articles, the incoming text was (...)      (...) Here's another idea - shamelessly stolen from a great bit of software called SuperJPG. (URL) This is (in my opinion) the best JPG indexing tool available. Anyways, the package lets you add "keys" to your images. It works like this: Suppose you (...) (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Categorizing uploaded robot images on legomindstorms.com —Eric Brok
You may wish to consider a combination of a main hierarchical taxonomy (mobile->wheels->...) with tag keys for attributes (contains homebrew sensor). User may search both ways. Eric (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Categorizing uploaded robot images on legomindstorms.com —Robert Munafo
Letting them search both ways might be too much work for the Russell and/or the folks putting this system together. A heirarchical taxonomy is all right as long as it allows for each "node" to have more than one child and more than one parent. (...) (25 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
