  Re: Code Repository

From: "Laurentino Martins" <lmartins@marktest.pt> (...) If the scripts are on their own pages then it is trivial for someone to right click and do a "save as" to download the file to their computer. If they want to view it then they could normally (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Code Repository

(...) As LDraw enthusiasts have discovered (via the lugnet.cad.dat.* hierarchy), having special newsgroups for these sorts of things really makes it nice to follow discussions that pop up as well, since they're simply lower-level nodes in the (...)   Re: Code Repository

Just remember, you must it very easy to post code and pictures or people will not end up using it a lot. Last time I went to the LDraw CAD group (months ago) it still had a few problems. I'm talking about no support for attachments (how can we post (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Code Repository

(...) With regard to posting pictures, I don't know if that's true. The fact that the newsserver rejects binaries has never stopped anyone from simply posting the URL of a picture on their website. That's better for people anyway, because they don't (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) On their web site? What's the percentage of people that subscribe this mailing list that has a web site? Many people even use the web interface because using a news reader is too complicated! I can't imagine this people creating a HTML page. (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Code Repository

(...) You should visit GeoCities or a site like it. You get a free web site and Wizard-style page creation tools, all run from the browser. Besides, we're talking about a repository for programmers. (Although many will be newbies, to be sure.) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Code Repository

(...) Since many algorithms apply across languages, what about a single repository for all code? (How about lugnet.robotics.rcx.code?) True, it would increase the noise-to-signal ratio for many, but it would Keep It Simple. Also, I favor follow-ups (...) (...) Oh. Maybe we're talking about different things. No, I wasn't kidding, but I was talking about in relation to code rather than building. --Todd (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Or perhaps a more general one sitting atop the others (integrationally or as a launching point). Because even when there's pseudocode for something, the actual implementation in, say, pbFORTH, may differ fundamentally from the implementation (...)   Re: Code Repository

From: "Brian B. Alano" <alano@kiva.net> (...) I personally prefer to see implementations in a real language, but the language itself doesn't matter. It is pretty easy to translate algoritms from Pascal to C (to use a off-topic example), but it can (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Code Repository

(...) I agree. A room search algorithm implemented in legOS would be vastly different from one implemented in NQC. Sub-groups under lugnet.robotics.code seems appropriate. Joel Shafer joel@connect.net (25 years ago, 17-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)
