    Memory —Gord Goebel
Has anyone thought about increasing the memory capacity of an RCX (or is there simply not enough room inside the box)? -- "It is better to ask a 'stupid question' than to make a stupid mistake." (26 years ago, 7-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Memory —Ryan Evans
One problem that I think of right off is the H8300 has a maximum address space of 64kb. Granted, that's alot more memory than we have right now, but I just thought I'd bring it up. (...) (26 years ago, 7-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

         RE: Memory —Stephan B. Wessels
Although I think adding memory can be worthwhile I would like to add a point of perspective. I have several friends who used to work at Cincinnati Milacron writing software for the robots they manufacture. When I told them the RCX had 32KB they (...)          Re: Memory —Brett Carver
(...) This is a good point. I admit it, I spend a LOT of time trying to find ways to increase the range of my RCX. To date, I've actually spent more time building new input/output devices than I have actually building and programming robots. But, (...) (26 years ago, 7-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

         Re: Memory —Ryan Evans
I have to admit I actually don't know all that much about robotics itself. The mindstorms are my first foray into robotic creation and programming. I just thought it would be helpful to point out the memory limitation in the H8/300. In that respect, (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

          RE: Memory —Carl Schaefer
I posted this link to a book on sensors and effectors for robots. This book, which you can download for free, contains nearly 300 pages with *great* illustrations. It's a pretty weighty tome, though (comes in at over 13.5MB, but is in PDF (Adobe (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I can confirm that! :-) Laurentino Martins [mailto:lau@mail.telepac.pt] [(URL) you check the web site first?: (URL) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

         Re: Memory —Jonathan Knudsen
Hi Ryan, My standard recommendation is _Mobile Robotics, Inspiration to Implementation_, by Anita Flynn and Joe Lee Jones: (URL) see my previous post on this subject, which contains a mini-review: (URL) let it "leak" here that I am working on a book (...)          Re: Memory —Russell Nelson
Jonathan Knudsen writes: > I'll let it "leak" here that I am working on a book > about Mindstorms for O'Reilly. Cool! So, um, since O'Reilly traditionally puts an animal on the cover, what animal is this one going to have? I suggest that you (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

          Re: Memory —Ben Laurie
(...) Worth a go, but I have to say that O'Reilly's artistic types don't take well to suggestions :-) Not that I don't _lurve_ my horse. I do. Betcha they do a turtle. Cheers, Ben. -- (URL) grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

         RE: Memory —Carl Schaefer
I concur with Jonathan's recommendation on the Flynn/Jones book. It is very well done, it is thorough, and it is a pretty good introduction to robotics. I built the Rug Warrior Pro mentioned in the book without prior practical knowledge of robotics (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

         Re: Memory —Ryan Evans
Thanks to everyone for all of the great references. Now I've got enough reading material to last a good month and a half. But come to think of it, I really didn't want to get my homework done anyways. :) Thanks again, --Ryan (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Memory —Mark R. David
What would be more useful - and what I'm assuming (hoping?) alternate firmware like legOS are up to - is to allow you to manage the available memory between data space and code space. There are 6100 bytes of memory available for 5 programs and a (...) (26 years ago, 8-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Memory —Markus L. Noga
Hi Mark, (...) That's a yes. Apart from a minor issue with the memory map, you should have about 32k - ~5k kernel - ~1k ROM data available eventually. (...) (26 years ago, 9-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)
